There is a new thread from a client of the Godaddy Cloud Server on the LowendTalk website (https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/119819/godaddy-discontinues-cloud-services), that is he has got an email from GoDaddy with the content:
Please retrieve or back up your content before December 31, 2017.
After this date, your GoDaddy Cloud Server account will no longer be supported and your
servers will not be accessible. Here's everything you need to know to get prepared:
• Bitnami apps and images won't be supported after 2017/11/15.
• All other images and servers won't be supported after 2017/12/31.
• Prior to these dates, you'll still be able to build new servers, test,
clone and destroy servers.
• Your billing cycle and billing rate won't change.
To replace your current plan, please consider switching to a Virtual Private Server,
which provides fast, scalable and secure hosting.
After reading this article, we've searched for a round on Google, but did not find any other information about this. If this is true, it is regrettable for GoDaddy, they have just launched this service for a year and just opened a new datacenter in Singapore to serve the Asia Pacific market. And this service has also received positive comments from customers after they use.
Maybe the closure of this service is one of the measures to improve the business of GoDaddy in recent years. According to GoDaddy's financial report for the first quarter of 2017, revenue reached $489.7 million, up 13% over the same period in 2016. Net loss at the end of March 2017 was just $0.4 million (primarily related to our April 2017 acquisition of Host Europe Group (HEG) and $3.2 million of financing-related fees related to recent debt modification), down by half from the fourth quarter of 2016. See more at GoDaddy's first quarter 2007 financial report.
Whatever the reason, if you are using GoDaddy's cloud server, back up your site before December 31, 2017 and you should consider looking for alternatives today. If you ask me about the perfect replacement, I would suggest that you use DigitalOcean, a professional VPS's (Droplets) provider that is highly valued by customers for its stability and affordability, furthermore, DigitalOcean is offering a free $100 promotion (equivalent to 20 months using the lowest priced VPS package) for new customers. Let try using it, maybe it will suit you better.
